United Way Announces Touchdown Event

Last week United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes announced their campaign touchdown event and introduced the guest speaker for this special evening, 2017 Invictus Games medalist Denise Hepburn. Connex Lindsay participants – who helped to set up for the United Way press conference at which the announcement was made – were thrilled to meet Denise in person and share some very special time with her.

I live in the woods. Sometimes I wish I could see the sweeping sunsets or feel the wind as it gathers speed, but overall I like be nestled among trees. I do see some wildlife, but I am always astounded that, in the winter, my yard is covered in tracks.

My heart really aches for the school boards and bus companies that have to decide first thing in the morning about cancellations. On the one hand, they must proceed with absolute caution – after all we are talking about hundreds of big yellow transporters of precious student lives that could potentially slide over banks or be crashed into by others.

My daughter started university in September and it is a huge change both in thinking and lifestyle for her – suddenly she has weird class hours, and has to self-schedule hours of homework as well as balance her social events and part-time jobs. She is doing this well.

I love the holidays as they give most people at least a couple days to recharge, relax and reflect – but then I like equally the opportunity that a fresh new year offers. I am completely brainwashed, as many are, that the new year is a fresh start – for new storage solutions and exercise equipment, but also more than that.
